The Committee(s) on ARL Membership are ad hoc committee(s), convened when matters arise requiring attention. They are charged with one or more of the following:

1. Review policy matters pertaining to membership criteria and procedures.
2. Review qualifications of potential members, both university and nonuniversity, and recommend appropriate action to the Board.
• Reviews the narrative and statistical documentation, and conducts a site visit at the candidate institution's expense.

• May request additional quantitative or qualitative documentation or clarification during this process.

3. Prepare a written report to the Board that addresses the issues with a recommendation for action.

The Committee consists of three persons including the immediate Past President, (or delegated Board member who will serve as Chair) and if possible someone who has served on a previous Membership Committee. When a nonuniversity library is to be considered for membership, at least one member of the committee should be a respresentative from a nonuniversity member library.
