In fulfilling our mandate to respond to the scholarsí needs and provide new models, we have found that our publications break down traditional categories of print publishing because our users do not think or work within those categories. By creating an editorial and technical infrastructure that allows for exploration across content categories (linking a research article to a dataset supporting its findings, to a policy debate on the topic, for example, we are responding directly to researchersí needs to move across many different kinds of sources.
In these publications, we are not simply digitizing print, but using and integrating technology at a deeper level, so that it always enriches both content and functionality.
