Spring into LibQUAL+® with Conference Call Series—Register Now

Online registration for the “Spring into LibQUAL+” Skype series is now open for five calls to be held from January through March 2014.

The calls will be hosted by Martha Kyrillidou, senior director of ARL statistics and service quality programs, and Amy Yeager, library relations coordinator for statistics and assessment at ARL.

 
   

LibValue: Assessing the Value of E-books to Academic Libraries and Users webcast

This webcast, recorded April 18, 2013, describes research conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on how libraries and library users value e-books. Presenters include Paula Kaufman, Dean of Libraries and University Librarian; Tina Chrzastowski, Chemistry Librarian and Professor of Library Administration; and Lynn Wiley, Head of Acquisitions and Associate Professor.

The LibValue project (http://libvalue.cci.utk.edu/) is a three-year study funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to define and measure ways in which libraries create value through teaching and learning, research, and social, professional, and public engagement. LibValue is a collaboration among the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Libraries; and the Association of Research Libraries, with partners at Syracuse University and Bryant University.

This is the third in a series of six free webcasts on LibValue to be held in 2013.

The presenter is Bruce Kingma, Professor in the School of Information Sciences and Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.

ARL Releases RLI 284 on Digital Humanities, Library Space Assessment

rli-284-coverARL has published Research Library Issues (RLI) no. 284, which features an overview of the digital humanities by Don Waters of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This issue of RLI also includes an article on assessing library space and its connection to student learning, by Joan Lippincott of the Coalition for Networked Information and Kim Duckett of North Carolina State University Libraries.

 
 

Leading a Strategic Assessment Program in a Research Library: ARL to Offer Seminar for New Assessment Professionals

two people sitting at a table in a libraryARL is introducing a new educational opportunity for academic and research librarians: “Leading a Strategic Assessment Program in a Research Library: An ARL Seminar for Recently Appointed Assessment Professionals.” This two-day, in-person seminar is designed for librarians and coordinators who are new to the roles and responsibilities of assessment. Assessment professionals from non-ARL libraries are welcome to register. The seminar will be supplemented with pre- and post-workshop webcasts and independent learning activities, plus connection with a network of experienced colleagues who will provide ongoing support. The seminar will be held at the ARL offices in Washington, DC, on March 20–21, 2014. Webcasts will be held in March and May.
