ClimateQUAL®: Organizational Climate and Diversity Assessment—Call for Participation 2013

The online survey collects information about: (a) library staff perceptions of the organization’s commitment to the principles of diversity, (b) staff perceptions of organizational policies and procedures, and (c) staff attitudes. The survey addresses such issues as diversity, teamwork, learning, fairness, current managerial practices, and staff attitudes and beliefs.

 
 

ARL Partners in Grant to Study Value of Academic Libraries

A grant to study the value of academic libraries to students, faculty, policymakers, funders, and others has been awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Libraries and the Association of Research Libraries (ARL).

 
 

LibValue Webcast on Comprehensive Approaches to Defining Library Value: Video Online

This webcast provides an overview of methods used to estimate value in academic libraries and describes a study that calculated return on investment at the Syracuse University Library in 2010–2011. The presenter is Bruce Kingma, professor in the School of Information Sciences and Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. Webcast slides (PDF) are also availble for download. 

 
 

Library Assessment Forum to Explore Value of E-Books in Academic Libraries

mrs-duffee-reading-her-kindle“Mrs. Duffee Reading Her Kindle,” © Mike LichtARL will host a Library Assessment Forum at the upcoming American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago, featuring research on the value of e-books in academic libraries conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) as part of the LibValue project. The forum will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place (Adler 24A-C). The forum is open to all who are interested and no registration is necessary to attend.

 
 

LibQUAL+® to Offer Workshop at Northumbria Conference on Performance Measurement

York UK landscape York, UK, © Mark Davis ARL is sponsoring a LibQUAL+ Exchange of Experience workshop on Monday, July 22, 2013, in conjunction with the 10th Northumbria International Conference on Performance Measurement in Libraries and Information Services, to be held in York, UK. The half-day event will feature opportunities for LibQUAL+ participants and other interested parties to share experiences and discuss strategic uses of assessment results. The program will also include an update on the first UK implementation of the ClimateQUAL survey.

 
 

Library Assessment Conference 2014 to Convene August 4–6 in Seattle

The conference goal is to build and further a vibrant library assessment community by bringing together interested practitioners and researchers who have responsibility or interest in the broad field of library assessment. The conference provides a mix of invited speakers, contributed papers and posters, and workshops that stimulate discussion and provide workable ideas for effective, practical, and sustainable library assessment.

Library assessment—planning and implementing decisions based on good data—permeates the whole organization, and the biennial Library Assessment Conference attracts a diverse group of participants from across organizational structures. Even if you cannot attend the Library Assessment Conference, consider participating in the ARL-ASSESS discussions. The research library community can benefit from having all library staff members share their expertise and experience through this forum.

SPEC Kit 318: Impact Measures in Research Libraries (September 2010)

SPEC Kit 318 explores the tools and methods libraries use to gauge the difference they make for their user community, the topics assessment practitioners probe and the results they obtain, the effects of impact assessment, and whether institutions that publicize positive impact evidence see a difference in the level of financial or political support from their parent institutions. It includes documentation from respondents in the form of impact assessment goals, user surveys, and calculations of library value.
