LibQUAL+® Highlights from 2013, Canada Webcast Video Online

libqual-radar-chartLibQUAL+ radar chartDuring 2013, 165 libraries participated in LibQUAL+, and 202,000 respondents submitted valid surveys. Of these surveys, 72% were “LibQUAL+ Lite” questionnaires and 28% were long. Median survey completion times were 5 minutes, 22 seconds for the Lite questionnaire and 9 minutes, 5 seconds for the long version. Leading a Strategic Assessment Program in a Research Library: ARL to Offer Additional Session in November

two people sitting at a table in a libraryDue to high demand for the spring offering of “Leading a Strategic Assessment Program in a Research Library: An ARL Seminar for Recently Appointed Assessment Professionals,” ARL has opened registration with limited space for a second session to be held this fall. This two-day, in-person seminar is designed for librarians and coordinators who are new to the roles and responsibilities of assessment. The seminar will be supplemented with pre- and post-workshop webcasts (dates TBD) and independent learning activities, plus connection with a network of experienced colleagues who will provide ongoing support. The seminar will be held in Washington, DC, on November 6–7, 2014.

 
 

LibQUAL+® Workshops at ALA Midwinter: Slides Now Online

The team was joined by four guest speakers who presented a wealth of information about implementing the survey and acting on the results at their own libraries. Edge Initiative for Public Library Technology Assessment Launches

As of January 22, 2014, interested public libraries may sign up via the Edge website.

Participating libraries will use Edge to complete an assessment of their public access technology services. Edge provides additional tools and training for libraries to make improvements and better serve their communities.

 
 

Spring into LibQUAL+® with Conference Call Series—Register Now

Online registration for the “Spring into LibQUAL+” Skype series is now open for five calls to be held from January through March 2014.

The calls will be hosted by Martha Kyrillidou, senior director of ARL statistics and service quality programs, and Amy Yeager, library relations coordinator for statistics and assessment at ARL.

Assessment professionals from non-ARL libraries are welcome to register. The seminar will be supplemented with pre- and post-workshop webcasts and independent learning activities, plus connection with a network of experienced colleagues who will provide ongoing support. The seminar will be held at the ARL offices in Washington, DC, on March 20–21, 2014. Webcasts will be held in March and May.

LibQUAL+® to Launch Improvements in 2014—Register Now

map of LibQUAL+ countriesCountries of LibQUAL+ interactive mapARL invites libraries to join the global assessment community of LibQUAL+ by registering for the 2014 LibQUAL+ survey, which will feature several enhancements.

When the LibQUAL+ survey year opens in January, the team will introduce a mobile version of the survey. LibQUAL+ survey respondents will be automatically directed to the appropriate version of the survey based on the width of their browser window, so libraries will not need to distribute multiple survey URLs. The survey platform will also generate QR codes to use in promoting the mobile version.

 
 

Radical Change in Library Assessment Called for by Elliott Shore at Northumbria Conference

Elliott Shore, photo by Jon EricksonElliott Shore, ARL executive director, delivered a clarion call in the opening keynote address at the 10th Northumbria International Conference on Performance Measurement in Libraries and Information Services, held in late July in York, England. Shore’s presentation, titled “The Role of the Library in the Transformative Higher Education Environment: Or Fitting Our Measures to Our Goals,” challenged the library assessment community to radically change the measures it collects and uses. He proposed that libraries shift their assessment focus from description to prediction, from inputs to outputs, from quantity to quality.

LibQUAL+® 2014 Registration Now Open: Join the Global Assessment Community

Countries of LibQUAL+ interactive mapARL invites libraries to join the global assessment community of LibQUAL+ by registering for the 2014 LibQUAL+ survey.

LibQUAL+ is a suite of services that libraries use to solicit, track, understand, and act upon users’ opinions of service quality. The program’s centerpiece is a rigorously tested web survey paired with training that helps libraries assess and improve library services, change organizational culture, and market the library.

MINES for Libraries®: Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Services—Call for Participation

Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Services (MINES for Libraries, or MINES) is an online, transaction-based survey that collects data on user demographics and the purpose of use of e-resources. The MINES project utilizes a point-of-use survey technique and integrates usage data about such electronic resources as digital collections, open access journals, pre-print and post-print servers, and institutional repositories to provide an inclusive picture of the library’s supported networked e-resources. MINES has been administered at more than 50 North American libraries since 2003, surveying more than 100,000 networked services users.
