The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is a not-for-profit membership organization comprising over 120 libraries of North American research institutions. ARL influences the changing environment of scholarly communication and the public policies that affect research libraries and the diverse communities they serve. ARL pursues this mission by advancing the goals of its member research libraries, providing leadership in public and information policy to the scholarly and higher education communities, fostering the exchange of ideas and expertise, and shaping a future environment that leverages its interests with those of allied organizations. This account of association priorities and activities updates the entries in the first and second editions of the Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science and focuses on the years 2001 to 2007. arl-overview-2001-2007.pdf

Poster presented at the LCDP Luminary Class, June 2012. The Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce has succeeded in recruiting librarians from racial and ethnic minority groups to careers in academic and research libraries, with over 75% of program participants who currently hold library positions working in these types of libraries. Participants rate the program highly, with 86% stating that the program was very important/important in advancing their career. Three of the six program components of IRDW scored highly on the very favorable/favorable scale: participants valued the stipend funding, the leadership institute, and the visit to the Purdue University Libraries. The mentorship program was the lowest rated of the program components, and participants perceived this component to need improvement. lcdp-2012-poster-moore-alanna.pdf

Poster presented at the LCDP Luminary Class, June 2012. Students living off-campus are the majority of today's college student population. If a library is to be a success, librarians must understand the needs of this population base. This study attempts to determine if students at the all commuter campus of Penn State Worthington Scranton are satisfied with services and facilities of the library and to determine if their needs are being addressed. Results from the survey are analyzed to develop a profile of the needs of these particular students.
