The following materials must be submitted in application for the ARL/MLA DII scholarship:
To be uploaded with the application form:
- Abilities in oral and written communication
- Achievements
- Interpersonal skills (e.g., ability to work as a part of a team)
- Initiative
- 500-word essay describing what attracts the applicant to a career in music and performing arts librarianship. Criteria for evaluating the essays include:
- Content and clarity
- Clear professional and educational goals
- Enthusiasm
- Perceived potential for growth
- Official letter of acceptance into one of the MLIS programs affiliated with the partner libraries:*
- University at Buffalo, SUNY
- University of California, Los Angeles
- University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- University of North Texas
- University of Pittsburgh

*Please note that each MLIS program associated with the five partner libraries has its own admissions and application requirements and, in some instances, their own ARL/MLA DII scholarship application processes. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all admissions deadlines are met. Participation in the DII program is contingent upon acceptance into the MLIS program associated with the partner library. If you do not have a letter of acceptance by the time you submit your application to ARL, you may mail a copy of the letter directly to ARL once you receive it.
