ARL Annual Leadership Symposium (invitation only)

Curtis Small and Camila Alire at 2013 Leadership SymposiumARL Annual Leadership SymposiumARL will host its 10th Annual Leadership Symposium January 23–26, 2014, during the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. Symposium participants include master of library and information science (MLIS) students from ARL’s numerous diversity recruitment programs, including the Career Enhancement Program (CEP), the Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce (IRDW), the ARL/Music Library Association (MLA) Diversity and Inclusion Initiative (DII), and the ARL/Society of American Archivists (SAA) Mosaic Program.

ClimateQUAL® Partners Meeting (invitation only)


The ClimateQUAL® Partners Meeting is an in-person meeting by invitation only for libraries that have implemented or are interested in the assessment protocol ARL has developed in collaboration with the University of Maryland for assessing organizational climate and diversity, known as ClimateQUAL.

Breakfast will be offered from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The meeting itself will start at 9:00 a.m.

Space and Facilities Assessment

Please join us for an engaging Library Assessment Forum where Teresa Walker, associate professor and head of integrated user services at the University of Tennessee (UT) Libraries, will tell us about the Information Commons assessment conducted at UT through the LibValue grant.  Bob Fox, dean of libraries at the University of Louisville and chair of the ARL Statistics and Assessment Committee, will also discuss issues related to facilities renovations.  In the context of pursuing strategic directions, Danuta Nitecki, dean of libraries and professor of information science at Drexel University, will share insights about utilizing ROI and observational data as part of Drexel Libraries’ ongoing transformation to better advance the university’s mission.

Last but not least we will hear the latest exciting plans and radical changes in store for our upcoming Library Assessment Conference, scheduled to take place in Seattle, Washington, August 4–6, 2014, from Steve Hiller, director of assessment and planning at the University of Washington Libraries and conference co-chair.

The ARL Survey Coordinators and SPEC Liaisons Meeting is a biannual event hosted by ARL at the ALA Annual Conference and ALA Midwinter Meeting. No registration is required.

We look forward to meeting the ARL Statistics survey coordinators and SPEC liaisons at ALA in Philadelphia. Part of the meeting will focus on the findings from the special collections data and the work the committee is doing to develop a framework and associated data collection in relation to facilities.
