Research library collections are changing in scope, complexity, and priorities. Collecting is expanding in at least two critical dimensions: new formats of scholarly products, and resources that represent scholarly processes. Library focus will include:
- Stewardship of unique assets associated with an institution or library in an increasing priority (e.g., special collections, research data, and institutional repositories). Capture and preservation of web resources and other born-digital content will increase and create a new dimension to special collections.
- Research universities manage and preserve a massive array of digital assets—images, text, and data—and require robust data management and digital preservation programs.
