Research libraries are engaged in many aspects of publishing, including advocacy, consulting and production. Rather than strictly focusing on acquiring the products of scholarship from external sources, the library is now supporting and embedded within the processes of scholarship, including in some cases the creation of scholarly output. Research universities manage and preserve a massive array of digital assets—images, text, and data—and require robust data management and digital preservation programs. As libraries build infrastructure to support collaborative data collections they may also advance capacity for e-publishing of various assets.
