The University of Kentucky Libraries seeks an experienced, collaborative, creative, flexible, and user-oriented professional for the position of Music and Fine Arts Cataloging Librarian in the Collection, Digital Scholarship, and Technical Services Division (CTS). The successful candidate will manage the cataloging and discovery of print and electronic resources in the Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library, which includes music, art, arts administration, dance, photography, and theater. Reporting to the Director of Cataloging & Database Integrity, the Music and Fine Arts Cataloging Librarian will serve as Unit Head for Music and Fine Arts Cataloging, and as such will demonstrate collegiality, cooperation, and engagement in planning and executing the CTS strategic initiatives.
As Unit Head, the Librarian will supervise staff, graduate assistant(s), and students in technical services at the Fine Arts Library. The Unit will be responsible for providing original and complex copy cataloging of materials in multiple formats (including scores, sound recordings, video recordings, books, and artists' books), as well as database maintenance, technical processing, binding, and inventory projects. The Librarian will also be responsible for authority work, including creation of original and corrected records for NACO; managing special cataloging projects; and the overall management of technical services processing. The Music and Fine Arts Cataloging Librarian will be expected to remain current with constantly evolving cataloging rules and practices. Working closely with the other catalogers in the Cataloging & Database Integrity Department, the Librarian will participate in establishing and refining local procedures and policies.
REQUIRED:
ALA-accredited master's degree in Library and Information Science, or equivalent advanced degree.
Undergraduate degree in music or related field.
Experience cataloging scores and sound recordings.
Two or more years of academic, conservatory, or research library experience.
Supervisory and project management experience.
Experience cataloging with RDA (with LC-PCC PS and Music Library Association Best Practices), Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Classification, MARC 21, and OCLC.
Experience with principles of authority control.
Bibliographic knowledge of one or more Western European languages other than English.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with diverse constituencies.
Ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track position through research, publication, and/or professional engagement.
PREFERRED:
Advanced degree in music or art.
Experience with AACR2 and other cataloging and metadata standards.
Experience with cataloging and metadata for electronic and digital resources.
Experience with NACO.

Position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position.
