The Opportunity:

The University of Guelph Library invites applications for a Collections Librarian, Social Sciences and Business.

The Team:

As part of the Collections and Content team, the incumbent actively contributes toward the fulfillment of the mandate to:
* build and manage collections that are central to teaching and research, are easily discoverable and available in a timely manner;
* implement tools, processes and strategies in order to improve the discovery experience for library users;
* engage in evidence-informed decision making;
* leverage collections resources to support the transition to open scholarship; and
* negotiate and advocate for the best possible terms for our users while being prudent fiscal stewards.

Position Description:

Reporting to the Head, Collections & Content and working collaboratively with two other Collections Librarians (one for the Arts and Humanities and one for Sciences and Engineering) and the rest of the C&C team, the Collections Librarian:

* engages in the following collections activities with a primary focus on the social science and business disciplines:
        o collection development
        o budget management
        o collection management
        o collection assessment
        o communication and outreach;
* utilizes evidence-informed decision making using a variety of sources, including:  quantitative data, qualitative data, university curriculum documents and plans, university research documents and plans, and formal course/program assessments and accreditations;
* demonstrates the impact of library collections on teaching, learning and research at Guelph;
* ensures communication and proper consultation and collaboration with stakeholders, and other Library strategic teams; 
* fosters good communication and effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other library users;
* collaborates and consults with colleagues on other teams to develop a distributed model of collections in support of teaching, learning and research needs across campus;
* works with colleagues responsible for acquisitions, e-resource management, e-learning, metadata, and discovery and access in order to maximize user access to collections;
* maintains current awareness of best practices and emerging services in collections activities among research libraries and the scholarly communication ecosystem within the disciplines; and stays abreast of changes in policy and legislation, and the emerging services and developments at other institutions and within the disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

* An ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree
* At least one year of experience in any area of library collections work
* Education or experience in a social science or business discipline(s)
* Understanding of the scholarly communication ecosystem, particularly in the social science and business disciplines
* A commitment to working in a collaborative team environment
* Intellectual curiosity/initiative and a commitment to ongoing professional development
* Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
* Demonstrated project coordination skills and the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
* Ability to multi-task and to be flexible and adaptable in a variety of professional contexts
* Strong oral and written communications skills
* Strong technical aptitude to learn and utilize an evolving array of tools in support of evidence-informed decision making

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience working in an academic library environment
* In depth knowledge and experience in collection development, management and assessment practices and principles in all formats
* Demonstrated engagement in the scholarly communication ecosystem, particularly in social sciences or business disciplines
