The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an energetic, motivated and collaborative librarian to serve as Special Collections and Humanities Cataloger. The successful candidate will be responsible for bibliographic control and metadata related to rare and specialized published materials in the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library and also will catalog humanities materials in the Library’s general collections. The position requires the ability to create both original and complex adaptive cataloging, as well as to perform catalog management and authority control activities. Cataloging is done to national standards, with participation in the NACO, BIBCO, CONSER and SACO programs. The Special Collections and Humanities Cataloger works in a collegial environment of cataloging specialists in both the Special Collections Library and Davis Library Technical Services. The position is situated in the Special Collections Technical Services Department of the Wilson Library, where 60% of the cataloger’s duties are based; the cataloger also spends 40% of his or her time in the Original/Adaptive section of Resource Description and Management (RDM) in Davis Library. The Special Collections and Humanities Cataloger reports to the Assistant Head of Special Collections Technical Services. While in Davis Library, the cataloger’s work is directed by the head of RDM.
