The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for a creative, innovative, and engagement-oriented science librarian. We seek applicants who combine skills in outreach, technology, and subject expertise to help shape the future of library services. The successful candidate will serve as liaison for plant pathology, plant biology, agronomy and plant genetics, and related research centers. This librarian will play a lead role in research services for ABES and will forge relationships with faculty and students to create new services in response to trends in scientific research in disciplines served by the department. Primary responsibilities include working with faculty to explore new models of scholarly communication; partnering to integrate content and tools into faculty workflow; and, identifying and supporting other research needs, such as data management and personal information management. The successful candidate will also contribute to the profession and work toward continuous appointment. This librarian will be based in C. Peter Magrath Library (http://magrath.lib.umn.edu/) and report to the Academic Program Director for Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Sciences. Responsibilities: * Develop strong connections with faculty and students to determine and address service needs. * Seek opportunities for collaborative partnerships with designated departments and research centers. * Promote new modes of scholarly communication and recruit institutional scholarly output for inclusion in the University Digital Conservancy (repository services). * Provide research lifecycle support and leadership, including shared service development in areas such as data management planning, research networking, and personal information management. * Support teaching and learning needs of assigned departments. * Select and manage materials in all formats for assigned subject areas. * Provide leadership for and contribute to library-wide projects. * Contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement. Qualifications: Required: * Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited library school or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience. * Facility with technology and its application in academic contexts. * Knowledge of trends in data management, data curation and e-science in a university research environment. * Knowledge of metadata schemas and discipline specific ontologies as well as subject repositories of open data useful for researchers. * Demonstrated analytical skills; knowledge of statistics. * Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. * Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and self-direction. * Ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities. * Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and library users in a service-oriented, research-intensive environment. * An understanding of collection development issues and processes. * Demonstrated knowledge of science/engineering or agricultural/biological sciences research and publication trends. Preferred: * Undergraduate or graduate science degree. * Relevant discipline-specific experience in an academic or research library in a research-intensive environment. * Experience in the design and integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services. * Familiarity with software programming; strong web development and digital library skills. * Understanding of trends in academic research support and expertise in providing research lifecycle support. * Experience with grant development and project management.
