York University Libraries seek a fluently bilingual (French and English) service-oriented librarian with excellent communication skills to fill the position of reference librarian in the Leslie Frost Library. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, creative and self-motivated person who works well with colleagues in a dynamic environment. The bilingual Glendon University College offers courses in the social sciences, humanities and international affairs, and graduate programs in French, Hispanic Studies, Public Affairs and Translation. York University Libraries consist of a large central library and three branch libraries, one of which is the Leslie Frost Library on the Glendon campus. The Frost Library serves a population of approximately 2,800 students and faculty. The chosen candidate will provide reference assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty virtually and in person; offer information literacy instruction to library users individually and in groups; liaise with faculty members; participate in collections maintenance; create and maintain web based resources for research and learning; and participate in departmental working groups and committees of the Libraries and of Glendon. Some evening and weekend work and travel between campuses is required. The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: - An ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent. - Broad knowledge of information resources relevant to the social sciences and humanities. - Strong written and oral communication skills in both French and English. - Demonstrated ability to provide excellent reference service. - Demonstrated expertise with online content management platforms such as WordPress or LibGuides. - A strong public service ethic and/or background. - Understanding of the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy instruction. - Experience in teaching and an ability to teach in a variety of settings and formats. - Evidence of professional initiative and leadership. - Willingness to assume some administrative responsibilities. - Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and projects concurrently. - Demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with a diverse population of faculty, librarians, staff, and students. - Willingness to engage in university committee work, research, and professional development. This is a 1-year contractually-limited appointment with the designation of Adjunct Librarian and appropriate for a librarian with up to three years post-MLS experience. Librarians at York University have academic status and are members of the York University Faculty Association bargaining unit (http://www.yufa.org/). Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
