The John Bassett Memorial Library is seeking a motivated, self-directed, service-oriented librarian to serve as part of the Reference Department team. The Library serves a population of over 3000 including students, faculty, and staff from Bishop’s University and Champlain Regional College as well as the surrounding community. The Reference Department assists and instructs library patrons in the effective use of information resources and research methodologies. The successful candidate will participate in teaching, reference and liaison activities in the Library and elsewhere on campus and in the development of new programs and services. The librarian will assist students in developing the skills required to locate, evaluate and use resources effectively and will support faculty research. The librarian will be responsible for the teaching of credit courses in information technology and will participate in various programs and activities, including the delivery of library orientation classes, and reference service. The librarian will establish and maintain liaison with faculty and will undertake collection development activities in a variety of subject areas. The successful candidate will participate in the shared decision-making of the Reference Department and the selection team as well as in other working groups and committees of the Library. Evening and weekend work is required. This is a limited-term, contract position from approximately mid-August 2013 to mid-May 2014. This is an entry level position to be filled at the rank of Librarian I. The librarians have academic status and are members of the Association of Professors of Bishop’s University, Faculty and Librarians Bargaining Unit. Salary is commensurate with experience and according to the scales defined in the Collective Agreement.
