The University of North Carolina seeks an experienced, energetic, and collegial individual with a strong academic background to coordinate research and instructional services for the Rare Book Collection (http://www.lib.unc.edu/rbc/) at the Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library (http://www.lib.unc.edu/wilson/). Reporting to the Head of Special Collections Research and Instructional Services (R&IS) and working closely with the Curator of Rare Books, the Rare Book Research Librarian will foster intellectual engagement with the collection, ensure its vital role in UNC academic departments and programs, and participate in the development of special collections-wide services, instruction, and outreach.The Rare Book Research Librarian will be directly responsible for on-site and virtual researcher services for the Rare Book Collection, consulting with researchers to identify resources relevant to their work, assisting with requests for permission to publish; working with faculty and instructors to incorporate knowledge and use of the collection into courses and workshops; assessing the effectiveness of research and instructional services; and creating innovative research and access tools, including digital products. These efforts will serve a broad range of audiences, including faculty, undergraduates, graduate students, researchers from around the world, and the general public.The Rare Book Research Librarian may supervise students and will participate directly in the delivery of researcher services in the Special Collections Reference Center, with regular weekday and occasional weekend desk shifts. The Librarian will devote approximately 10% of his/her time assisting the Curator of Rare Books with acquisitions, donor relations, exhibitions, and programs. The incumbent will serve on library committees and work closely and collaboratively with colleagues in R&IS, other Wilson Special Collections and Library departments, including the Carolina Digital Library and Archives, Library & Information Technology, and Davis Library's Research and Instructional Services. The Rare Book Research Librarian is expected to be active in scholarly and library professional organizations and the academic community.
