Information Technology Assistant

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) seeks an Information Technology Assistant to serve the IT needs of its staff and affiliated organizations. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this position will play an essential supporting role in identifying, evaluating, implementing, and managing technology solutions aimed at advancing ARL’s mission and organizational goals. Additionally, the position will provide, in collaboration with the Coalition for Networked Information, core IT support for ARL affiliates BioOne, National Humanities Alliance, SPARC, and Jonathan Band, LLC. The successful candidate will possess a solid foundational knowledge of enterprise computing (e.g., networking, administering/troubleshooting in both the Windows and Mac OS environments, provisioning/troubleshooting hardware, peripherals, and mobile devices) complemented by keen problem solving and communication skills and a strong customer service focus. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a person with solid foundational skills and a technical acumen to learn and grow while daily contributing to the success of a vibrant Association.

Primary Duties:

• Provide prompt, results-driven, and comprehensive technical support to ARL staff and affiliates including the troubleshooting of hardware, software, and printer issues as well as issues with contracted cloud-based services such as Google Apps, Salesforce, etc.
• Provide support for the administration of ARL’s website including the update and creation of specialized pages and modules, the provision and maintenance of tools to monitor accessibility compliance, support for SEO efforts and the capture and use of web analytics, and the integration of services such as Google Apps, Salesforce, etc.
• Provide support for internally developed as well as contracted SaS information platforms including database development, data maintenance and extraction, and report development and maintenance.
• Support the IT Director in the implementation and management of future and ongoing IT initiatives such as the development and implementation of an enterprise constituent relationship management system, the integration of internal information systems, the procurement and implementation of a VoIP phone system, and ensuring the accessibility of ARL’s outputs via publication platforms, websites, and other information systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 1–2 years of experience in an IT support role
• Experience with administering and troubleshooting issues in both the Windows and Mac OS environments, in common SaS platforms such as Google Apps and Saleforce, and in content management systems
• Experience administering networks (i.e., switches, firewalls, DNS, TCIP, etc.)
• Superior problem solving skills and follow through
• Superior communication skills
• A strong customer-service focus
• The ability to take initiative and to work with minimal direction

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with the not-for-profit, library, or association arena
• A working knowledge of SQL and/or object-oriented programming concepts
• Experience with programming and/or web application development
• Experience with system integration, particularly of SaS solutions
