The University at Albany (State University of New York, Albany, NY) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director for Public Services. Reporting to the Dean and Director of Libraries, this senior administrative position provides leadership for all library public services including Reference, Information Literacy, Information Commons, Public Access (Circulation/Reserves/ILL/Document Delivery), and the Interactive Media Center. As a member of the senior administrative group, the Associate Director shares responsibility for developing and implementing the mission, goals and broad policy directions for the University Libraries.

Albany is looking for a forward-thinking, service-oriented, collaborative leader with a keen sense of the evolving role of research libraries in the digital age and demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current trends in all areas related to public services in research libraries. The Associate Director provides overall leadership and vision for the Public Services Division, which consists of 20 academic and professional faculty, 14 staff, and graduate and undergraduate student assistants. The Associate Director’s responsibilities include: managing the three divisional departments (Reference, Information Literacy, and Access Services); measuring and assessing outcomes of divisional activities; proactively planning for improved services; collaborating with other campus units to develop services including the Information Commons; and advising and mentoring faculty. The successful candidate will be a creative, collegial, energetic and experienced senior administrator with a solid record of leadership and innovation. S/he will demonstrate a breadth of knowledge about research libraries and a commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research and publication, presentations, and participation in national professional associations.
