Assistant or Associate Professor & Health Sciences Bibliographer UIC Library of the Health Sciences (Chicago) The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library of the Health Sciences (LHS) seeks a faculty librarian to build health science collections in all formats. This is a tenure system faculty position. The Library of the Health Sciences supports UIC programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, associated health professions, public health, and doctoral programs in basic and clinical science, several with regional presence in Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. The Library serves as the Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region, and is one of the largest health sciences libraries in the United States. The Health Sciences Bibliographer is primarily responsible for collection development, along with selected research services, including liaison to assigned units, research consultations, and developing Web content. Hours may include weekends and evenings. Specific responsibilities include: * Serve as the UIC Library Collections Coordinator’s primary contact for collection development at the Library of the Health Sciences at Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. * Manage the health sciences allocation (the L [LHS] Guideline), currently comprising $2,608,000 or 32% of the collections budget (an additional 32% of the total budget is allocated to general resources serving all disciplines) * Coordinate subscriptions to databases, e-journals, and e-books that serve LHS in Chicago and the regional health science campuses in Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. * Coordinate selections for LHS Chicago among the LHS Chicago liaisons. * Advise the UIC Library Collections Coordinator and LHS liaisons on health sciences issues and trends in publishing. * Collaborate with the UIC Library Collections Coordinator and LHS Regional Heads to conduct assessment of the health sciences collection, including comprehensive use statistics for e-resources, comprehensive review of ILL data, and analysis of trends * Supervise LHS Chicago technical services staff. * Address weeding at LHS and the regional campuses. * Assist in training health sciences liaisons on best practices in collection development. * Serve as liaison to selected health science focused institutes and related selection responsibilities. * On occasion, provide general reference services, including staffing the reference desk, answering online reference questions (chat and e-mail), and conducting research consultations as needed. * Develop health science collection development content for the Library’s Web pages. * Serve on relevant library committees. * Other related duties as assigned. Reports directly to the Head of Information Services, Research, and Bioinformatics, Library of the Health Sciences. Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program; two years of professional library experience. Proficiency with collection resources in service to academic health science programs; knowledge of emergent library roles and collection issues; experience in an academic health science library (or equivalent experience); familiarity with electronic health information resources; strong user-focused services orientation; excellent written communication and interpersonal skills; familiarity with basic computer applications and bibliographic management software; flexibility to work collaboratively in a team environment; evidence of good judgment and organizational skills; and demonstrated ability to meet University standards in research, publication and professional service commensurate with tenure; ability to travel. Additional Desirable Qualifications: Subject background in the health sciences or equivalent; supervisory experience. SALARY/RANK/CONTRACT: Faculty status position. Salary and rank dependent upon qualifications and experience. Salaries are competitive and based on education and experience; twelve month appointment; 24 days vacation; two weeks annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); a dental plan is available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the Illinois State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage but Medicare payment required.
