ARL is recruiting an individual to be the director of public policy initiatives. ARL is a nonprofit, member-driven institutional organization representing 125 research and academic libraries in the US and Canada. ARL’s mission is to influence the changing environment of scholarly communication and the public policies that affect research libraries and the diverse communities they serve.

The director of public policy initiatives advocates for the policy priorities of ARL and executes strategies to implement these priorities. The position monitors legislative trends and participates in ARL’s outreach to the Executive Branch and the US Congress. The successful candidate will have expertise in copyright law and familiarity with related information policy issues, such as privacy, communications law, and First Amendment. The director works closely with the associate executive director, federal relations and information policy; the ARL executive director; the ARL Board of Directors; relevant ARL committees and task forces; and ARL members.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. ARL offers standard benefits including sick leave, 22 days of vacation, TIAA/CREF.
