Head of Digital Repository Services Responsibilities: This newly established librarian position, reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services, will have a key role in establishing and expanding repository policies and services of the University of Houston Libraries and will: Convene cross-functional teams to provide repository services to faculty Work with stakeholders to evaluate and implement evolving and new repository services and to evaluate organizational structure and staffing to support these services Participate in cross-functional teams to evaluate digital asset management systems and services Provide leadership in the adoption of best practices for repositories in copyright and scholarly communication Serve as a member of the Committee on Digital Collections with the Head of Special Collections and the Head of Collection Services Manage, with campus partners, the submission and publication policies for electronic theses and dissertations through the Vireo submission system Collaborate with: -Liaison Services in the development and communication of data management policies, and provision of training in support of the institutional repository and scholarly communication on campus -Special Collections, Metadata and Digitization Services, and other stakeholders to advance preservation policies based on current technology standards and developments -Metadata and Digitization Services to assure that metadata schema and standards conform with repository requirements -Web Services on system integration, customization and development, and to assure that interfaces meet usability and design standards -Resource Discovery Systems to assure access to internal and external repositories; this includes harvesting of repositories when necessary Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning. Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program Demonstrated excellent communication skills and strong service orientation Experience developing or managing an institutional repository infrastructure, including the creation and maintenance of workflows for transferring and ingesting data into the repository Experience with repository applications and web technologies Knowledge of issues and trends in scholarly communication, intellectual property and rights management Supervisory experience Preferred: Experience with archival and special collections standards and protocols Experience with national and consortial efforts in digital library services Salary: $75,000 – $82,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax. Library Information: The UH Libraries are a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, the Hathi Trust, the Council on Library and Information Resources, the Digital Library Federation, and the Texas Digital Library. The campus libraries provide access to over 3.1 million volumes. Total staff includes 69 professionals and approximately 135 support staff.
