Hispanic Collections Archivist Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of Special Collections, this position serves as the archivist for collections reflecting the impact of Mexican Americans and other Hispanic groups on the history and culture of Houston. The position works with the directors of Arte Público Press and the Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project. The Hispanic Collections Archivist works with Library Development, individual donors and organizations to acquire collections and promote their visibility by organizing public exhibitions and special programs. The Archivist provides classroom instruction, reference service and web-based access tools for users of the collections. The Archivist manages the processing of physical and digital collections; and hires, trains and supervises staff and student processors. The Hispanic Collections Archivist is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning. Qualifications: Required- ALA-accredited Master’s degree Demonstrated knowledge of best archival practice Skilled in using an archival management system Relevant supervisory experience Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Fluency in Spanish (written and verbal). Language abilities will be assessed during the interview process Must be able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs. Preferred- Coursework in archival management and/or archival certificate from the Academy of Certified Archivists Experience working in a research library setting processing archival collections, teaching and providing reference service Academic specialization or advanced degree in a related field such as Hispanic Studies Experience with digital collections Salary: $62,000 – $65,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications.
