UIC Library of the Health Sciences - Chicago Assistant Professor & Assistant Information Services/Liaison Librarian The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library of the Health Sciences seeks a faculty librarian for its Information Services, Research, and Bioinformatics Department. The Library of the Health Sciences supports UIC programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, associated health professions, public health, and doctoral programs in basic and clinical science, several with regional presence in Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. The Library serves as the Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region, and is one of the largest health sciences libraries in the United States. The University of Illinois at Chicago is a research institution with quality standards in research and publication. Faculty librarians excel in librarianship, conduct research, publish, and engage in service to the profession. The Information Services librarian is responsible for all aspects of information services, with emphasis on collection development, research and user support, outreach, and instructional services. Hours may include weekends and evenings. This is a tenure track faculty position with research and publication expectations. Specific responsibilities include: • Serve as liaison to selected health science colleges; • Provide general reference services that may include: conducting research consultations, answering online reference questions via social media (chat and e-mail), and staffing the reference desk; • Work with faculty to provide research support; • Support scholarly communication activities, data curation and preservation services; • Develop course integrated curriculum for assigned Health Sciences colleges, departments and institutions; • Participate in the university-wide initiative to develop and promote interdisciplinary informatics curricula; • Offer instructional services that may include: teaching classes, developing tutorials, consulting on curriculum development, designing face to face and online instructional materials; • Collaborate with UIC campus partners to support and facilitate research activities; • Maintain an assigned area of the resource collection for currency and relevance; • Work with other professionals to develop and revise programs in response to changing technology and information needs; • Develop content for the library’s web site; • Promote and evaluating services and resources; • Participate in University Library committees and task forces; Reports directly to the Head of Information Services, Research, and Bioinformatics, Library of the Health Sciences. Minimum Qualifications: • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program; • Two years of professional experience in an academic health sciences library or equivalent experience; • Experience in searching PubMed and other health-related and life sciences databases; • Strong user-centered service commitment; • Interest in implementing emerging technologies; • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team; • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; • Demonstrated ability to meet university standards in research, publication, and professional service commensurate with tenure requirements. Salaries are competitive and based on education and experience; twelve month appointment; 24 days vacation; two weeks annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); a dental plan is available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the Illinois State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage but Medicare payment required.
