Resource Description Coordinator Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of Metadata and Digitization Services, the Resource Description Coordinator will provide leadership and expertise in resource description of materials. This incumbent will work closely with two other coordinators within the department to ensure efficient access and discoverability of our electronic and physical resources. Primary duties include original and complex adaptive cataloging of materials in multiple formats; manage various projects; contribute to the national name authority file; develop and implement policies and procedures; participate in planning, goal-setting, and assessing the effectiveness of staff and operations; provide training and direction to staff in resource description routines; keep current with new trends, standards and practices. This position will supervise 4 classified staff employees and 1-2 part-time cataloging librarian(s). The Resource Description Coordinator is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are required to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning. Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library program Demonstrated knowledge and experience in resource description of multiple formats using national cataloging standards (AACR2, LCSH, LCC, and MARC) Knowledge or experience in creating name authority records Experience with cataloging module of integrated library system Knowledge of forthcoming changes with RDA, FRBR, linked data and semantic web Preferred: Supervisory experience Knowledge or experience in resource description of special collections materials using DACS and DCRM Experience with III Millennium, Serials Solutions, MarcEdit and other cataloging related systems Bibliographic knowledge of one or more languages other than English The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively in a diverse, collegial, changing environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; leadership or project management skills in a work setting. Salary: $58,000 – $62,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
