The Head of Access Services provides leadership and management for service desks, access and delivery services across the Heard library system. This includes helping to establish and implement consistent user-friendly policies for access and use policies, circulation, reserves, delivery services and staffing levels. The incumbent will supervise the operations of 8 discrete service desks, establish and evaluate goals and service level expectations across the system. This position will report to the Associate Dean of Libraries. This position is also responsible for the managing the public service desk, circulation and stack maintenance operations of the one of the campus libraries. This includes supervision of 1 full-time staff and hiring, training and supervision of a cadre of part-time student workers. This position entails constant interaction with patrons and library staff, and the ability to understand and interpret library policies to both patrons and staff. This position also participates in system-wide policy development and implementation for access services and service desk training. All professional staff are expected to consider participation on library committees or other library strategic initiatives as an integral component of their responsibilities. These may vary in number and scope over time, but these are not add-ons or distractions from primary responsibilities, they are a substantive portion of the job responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will bring a combination of experience managing service desk operations, and an ability to envision and implement system-wide policies and procedures. A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of supervisory work experience managing a service desk operation in an academic library are required. A library degree, and experience in managing a service desk with less experience is another path for a qualified candidate. The ability to work in a highly collaborative setting, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to service are expected. A wide range of computer and technology skills are required for most professional positions in the library, facility with the technologies of integrated library systems and current trends in library technology are needed. Ability to work with a variety of departments, across the university and with the broad patron base of the university library is important.
