Brown University Library Communications & Public Programs Specialist The Communications & Public Programs Specialist, under the direction of the University Librarian and in coordination with the University’s Office of Public Affairs and University Relations, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications program and coordinating major events that promote the Library’s visibility and recognition as an essential partner in the University’s mission to advance teaching, research, and learning and showcase Brown University Library as a national leader among academic libraries. The incumbent will develop clear, concise content for press releases, website updates, print materials, and social media networks, ensuring consistent and effective messaging across all platforms. In support of initiatives launched by the Office of the University Librarian, this position will coordinate the planning, publicizing, and execution of selected, high profile Library events. In addition, the incumbent will work with the University Division of Advancement and Library staff to recognize donors, managing a tracking process for acknowledgements and facilitating on-going Library communications with donors, fundraisers, and other stakeholders. •Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. •Minimum of three to five years work experience in communications, public relations, institutional promotion, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. •Minimum two years of experience in event planning and management. •Demonstrated excellent oral communications skills. •Fluency in social media for professional purposes. •Excellent computer application skills (e.g., Microsoft Office programs, desktop publishing software) •Experience with audio, video, and photo editing preferred. •Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, presentation, and editorial skills. •Ability to interact successfully with many different constituencies (e.g., donors, prospects, all user groups, library staff, and people on all levels within the University). •Ability to organize multiple projects simultaneously and work successfully in a deadline-oriented environment. •Previous experience working with high-level confidential material highly preferred. •Previous supervisory experience preferred. •Previous library work and understanding of and appreciation for an academic library and its function within the University preferred.
