Western University University Librarian Western University invites nominations and applications for the position of University Librarian. One of Canada’s top-ten research-intensive universities, Western is a diverse and collaborative community of nationally and internationally celebrated scholars. Through its twelve Faculties and Schools and its three Affiliated University Colleges, Western offers approximately 400 undergraduate, graduate and professional program specializations, including innovative modular degree structures that combine multiple disciplines. Western Libraries comprises eight service locations distributed across the University campus, and a total of 55 librarians and archivists and 115 staff members. Its holdings consist of over eleven million physical items, as well as online access to a growing collection of digital resources, including tens of thousands of electronic journals, databases, and hundreds of thousands of e-books. Western Libraries is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries, the Canadian Research Knowledge Network, the Centre for Research Libraries, and the Ontario Council of University Libraries. It was a founding member of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and is an active partner in Scholars Portal (Ontario). Recognized for the quality of its staff, the access and services provided, and its outstanding print and digital collections, Western Libraries is committed to excellence. Its major strategic direction is to achieve integration as a key partner in the academic enterprise, thereby providing appropriate and effective services to support Western’s teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and administrative goals. The University Librarian must have proven leadership experience in a major research library; the capacity to promote a sense of shared mission and collective vision for a library of the 21st century; exceptional communication skills and the ability to build relationships inside the University and externally; proven skills in collaboration and building teams; a commitment to service excellence and to the continued building of outstanding collections; and an MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited Library School, or a Ph.D. in library and information science or equivalent degree.
