Program Coordinator, Non-Roman Languages Job Description: The Ohio State University Libraries is currently seeking applications for a Non-Roman Languages Coordinator within the Collections and Technical Services Division to coordinate, plan, develop, evaluate, and supervise Non-Roman Languages cataloging within the University Libraries. Successful candidates will possess experience planning and overseeing cataloging in several foreign languages, experience supervising, delegating and motivating a team, and strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Key Responsibilities: 60% -Workflow Management: 1. Under the supervision of the Head of Cataloging the position will lead the Non-Latin Languages Section and will be responsible for: Working closely with the OSU Language and Area Studies department defining workflows and solving cataloging issues; Develops and maintains collegial relationships with key library departments; particularly Acquisitions, Information Technology, and Preservation and Reformatting departments. 2. Performing original and complex copy cataloging of materials representing all levels of difficulty, all subjects and all formats according to RDA, LCRIs, LCSH, LC classification and MARC formats; Participating in the NACO, SACO, and BIBCO components of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) and performing authority work in accordance with local and national standards and guidelines. 3. Solving problems related to obsolete or incorrect information appearing in bibliographic and holdings records and well as assisting staff and student assistants in solving problems and achieving high level of accuracy; Keeping current with revisions to cataloging rules and trends, bringing revisions to the attention of the Head of Cataloging and assisting in the implementation of changes in the department, including the potential services and technologies. 30% - Performance Management: 1. Supervises 6.5 direct reports working within the Non-Roman Languages Section, responsible for hiring and training of staff and student assistants. Conducts performance planning and reviews; Fosters environment that empowers staff and supports a team approach to creative problem solving; continuously improves staff understanding of issues related to cataloging. 10% - Other Duties: 1. Prepares monthly report of the Non-Roman Section activities. 2. Maintain the Non-Roman Languages website and blog. 3. Other miscellaneous duties, as assigned. Required Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. • Demonstrated awareness of national trends and developments in cataloging of Non-Roman Languages materials; Demonstrated knowledge of automated bibliographic control systems and online library systems. • Excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to explain complex concepts to staff. • Ability to manage a diverse group of catalogers and students assistants. • Reading knowledge of at least one of the Non-Roman languages in addition to English and facility in working with a variety of other Non-Roman languages. • Demonstrated ability to establish and to adjust priorities and workflows for a dynamic and changing environment and to accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals; Must be self-directed, flexible, adaptable to change, analytical, and results oriented. • Excellent computer keyboarding skills and proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, & online applications. Desired Qualifications: • Recent experience in cataloging in an academic environment. • One year experience managing employees, including training Proficiency in 1 or more foreign languages. • Working knowledge of cataloging principles and practices including authority control, NACO, SACO, and BIBCO standards. • Experience using III's Sierra or other integrated library system. • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, achieving a good balance between quality and productivity.
