Communication, Sociology, and Anthropology Librarian The University of Houston Libraries seeks a dynamic liaison to the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication, the department of Sociology, and the Anthropology program within the department of Comparative Cultural Studies. The librarian will be responsible for collection development, instruction, outreach, and research support for each of these disciplines, which offer a wide variety of research interests and a growing number of interdisciplinary partnerships. The successful candidate will work collaboratively and proactively with faculty and students to provide teaching and research support, with a substantial focus on upper-level undergraduate and graduate instruction. As a member of the Liaison Services Department and the Social Sciences Team, the candidate will work collaboratively to advance Liaison Department priorities such as assessing instruction and collections, aligning with campus priorities, and expanding outreach to targeted campus populations. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work strategically in a complex, changing environment and have a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels as well as faculty and students. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. Qualifications: Required: ● Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program ● Demonstrated excellent communication skill and strong service orientation ● Degree, significant coursework, or experience within the social sciences with an emphasis on communication, sociology, and/or anthropology ● Ability to work in a team based environment Preferred: ● Experience in library instruction and assessment ● Experience in collection development Applications from recent graduates with backgrounds in appropriate subject areas are most welcome. Salary: $52,000 – $54,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications.
