Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) & Chief Librarian, this position works collaboratively in both the senior leadership of the Library and the Office of the CIO. The Associate Chief Librarian promotes the vision of the Library and Office of the CIO to be central to the University community with vision, leadership and advocacy for the development and delivery of user-focused services and technologies in support of research, teaching and learning. This Associate Chief Librarian position directly oversees Learning & Curriculum Support (inclusive of Learning Services, Writing Services, Information Literacy, Supported Learning Groups and the Data Resource Centre), Discovery and Access (inclusive of circulation, ILL, Reserves, E-learning, Accessibility Services, Ask Us Services, Web Development and User Experience). Direct responsibilities of this position include leadership, expertise in planning, supporting a strong client service strategy, mentoring and supervision, performance measurement and assessment, encouraging collaboration in a team-based environment. In light of the constantly changing demographic landscape within higher education as it relates to technology, learning and curriculum support and access to services, the requirement of this position to have a strong focus on users is paramount. This position is a member of Library Management Team (LMT), which is accountable for planning and the day-to-day management of the Library that includes: * Strategic leadership and organizational development * Integrated planning and administration including strategic initiatives, human resource, financial and space planning, ensuring the strategic directions and initiatives of the Library align with those of the Office of the CIO and University * Library policy development * Assessment and evaluation of programs * Stewardship of our information and data resources and collections * Promotion and outreach for services and initiatives * Facilitating the work of the Library by promoting and developing collaborative relationships within and between the Library, colleges and academic departments and academic service units In addition to internal strategic management, the incumbent plays a leadership role and actively participates in external organizations and partnerships such as the Tri-University Group (TUG) partnership consisting of the University of Guelph, Wilfrid Laurier University, and University of Waterloo, OCUL, CARL, CKRN, ARL and others. This Associate Chief Librarian shares in the senior leadership of the Library as a member of Library Executive with one other Associate Chief Librarian and the Director of Organizational Services. This Library Executive Team, which is led by the CIO & Chief Librarian, are responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Library, consisting of a $17 million budget and a large staff complement that includes 101 FTEs and more than 85 part time employees. This leadership group collaborates closely to create an integrated approach to the management and operation of the Library and to ensure Library services, resources and programs advance the University's mission and the Library's strategic directions and goals. As a member of the CIO Executive, the incumbent may act on behalf of the CIO & Chief Librarian in her absence and will serve internally on University committees, task forces, and working groups, where they contribute based on particular areas of expertise, representing the Library and/or the Office of the CIO. This team of executives works collaboratively on senior administration and planning, governance and risk management. QUALIFICATIONS An ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent degree with a strong academic background. The successful candidate will have demonstrated progressive responsibility and experience in leadership and management with a proven track record. Substantial relevant professional experience in positions within one or more of the functional strategic areas of responsibility from within a higher educational institution is highly desirable. Experience in user-focused library technologies, including usability, access and services are preferred. Also required is evidence of strong professional and scholarly activities.
