Dean of Library Services & University Librarian

Simon Fraser University Job Location: British Columbia Date Created: 12-11-2013

In the place where innovative education, cutting-edge research, and community outreach intersect, you will find Simon Fraser University (SFU). SFU is a leading comprehensive university with vibrant campuses in British Columbia’s largest municipalities (Vancouver, Burnaby, and Surrey), and deep roots in partner communities throughout the province and around the world. Its vision is to be Canada’s leading engaged university. At the heart of the university lies the SFU Library. The Library is comprised of three branches, dynamic educational hubs that support learning, research, and community engagement: the W.A.C. Bennett Library at the main Burnaby campus; the Samuel and Frances Belzberg Library at the downtown Vancouver campus; and the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board Library in Surrey. Across all three, the Library boasts a print collection of 2.7 million volumes, and 6,000 journal subscriptions. Its rapidly growing electronic collection includes 64,000 journal subscriptions, close to 5 million digital files, and the Research Data Library’s expansive collection of maps and datasets. An opportunity now exists for a research-oriented and student-centred librarian to join SFU as its new Dean of Library Services & University Librarian, and provide overall management of the institution’s vast holdings of books, journals, digital materials, and rare collections. Reporting to the Vice President, Research, and working closely with the Senate Library Committee, you will provide leadership to the University’s plan for engagement within the university and with external communities. Working closely with senior leadership, you will support and enhance the programs and services offered at all three Library sites, and will contribute to the University’s broader research, teaching, and learning initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to further the development of one of the best library resources in the province and to work for Canada’s leading comprehensive university.
