Coordinator of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Services (New Position) Responsibilities: The Coordinator of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Services will develop, implement, and assess research support services for faculty, graduate students, and campus research centers and institutes in the social sciences, humanities, architecture, business, education, and social work. Such services may include library components of digital humanities initiatives; data management training and facilitation; instruction in numeric, geospatial, and other data methodologies and tools; and support for the writing and management of research grants. Reporting to the Head of Liaison Services for Collections and Research Support, this new position is part of the Liaison Services Department, and the Coordinator of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Services will be an important member of a dynamic and collegial team of subject and functional specialists committed to providing outstanding service in the areas of instruction, outreach, collections, and research support. The position offers the opportunity for extensive collaboration with faculty and graduate students, exciting possibilities for involvement in emerging academic programs, and significant potential for creativity and innovation. The Coordinator of Social Sciences and Humanities Research Services is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Bylaws’ Document. They are expected to develop a record of service and professional involvement. Qualifications: Required- ALA-accredited master’s degree Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and serve as a team player Experience interacting effectively with campus administrators, faculty, and/or students Understanding of data management, including curation and preservation practices and current trends Background in social sciences or humanities discipline (degree or significant coursework) Demonstrated understanding of social science and humanities research processes Preferred- Library instruction or other teaching experience Familiarity with assessment practices in libraries Familiarity with GIS and its diverse research uses Knowledge of current trends in digital humanities Salary: $58,000 – $62,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
