COORDINATOR OF THE MUSIC LIBRARY Responsibilities: Plan and administer the programs and daily operations of the Music Library, with considerable scope for planning and implementing new program initiatives, including the application of new technologies to the delivery of services. Supervise, train, and evaluate the branch supervisor who manages 2.0 FTE staff as well as student workers. Provide reference service in the branch. Develop collections in all formats for music and theatre. Participate in library instruction for the Music Library. Serve as liaison to the faculties of the School of Theatre and Dance and the Moores School of Music. Serve on Public Services Council with leaders of the Architecture and Art Library, the Optometry Library, Liaison Services, Special Collections, and Digital Repository Services. This position will report to the Associate Dean for Public Services. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning. Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program; subject background in music; excellent communication skills and strong service orientation. Ability to work in a team-based environment Preferred: Supervisory experience; bachelors degree or higher in music; experience in a music library; experience or demonstrated interest in user education. Salary: $54,000 – $58,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax. Library Information: The Music Library is housed in the building of the Moores School of Music. The UH Libraries are a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, the Hathi Trust, the Council on Library and Information Resources, the Digital Library Federation, and the Texas Digital Library. The campus libraries provide access to over 3.1 million volumes. Total staff includes 69 professionals and approximately 135 support staff.
