Director of Library Services for Health Sciences

Responsibilities: Plan and administer new library facility and program of services for a health sciences center projected to include patient care services, workforce training programs, undergraduate and graduate instruction, research labs and community outreach. Supervise, train and evaluate staff of librarians with expertise in optometry, pharmacy, and other disciplines supported by the Health Sciences Center, technicians, and student workers. Provide reference service, library instruction and research support. Develop collections, information access, and support in health informatics. Support state-of-the-art computing and studio facilities for both individual and group work. Serve as library liaison to the researchers and clinicians housed in the Center. Serve on Public Services Council with leaders of the Architecture and Art Library, Music Library, Liaison Services, Special Collections, and Digital Repository Services. Reports to the Associate Dean for Public Services. The Director of Library Services for Health Sciences is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning. Qualifications: Required: Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program; subject background in health sciences; supervisory experience; excellent communication skills and strong service orientation; ability to work in team-based environment. Preferred: AHIP certification; research library experience. Salary: $75,000-$80,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
