Humboldt State University Dean for the University Library Job #7593   Humboldt State University is committed to achieving the goals of equal opportunity and endeavors to employ faculty and staff of the highest quality reflecting the ethnic and cultural diversity of the state Humboldt State University (HSU) is looking for a dynamic and energetic Dean for the University Library with the leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills to lead a planning effort to re-imagine its library for the future. This planning effort will include an integrated Library Commons with a focus on how best to re-design the Library, including its space and services, to improve student success. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for leadership of Library faculty and staff, strategic planning, budget administration, the development and ongoing assessment of Library programs and services, the effective use of technology, the integration of services into University instructional programs, facilities management, and management of Library fundraising efforts. The Dean serves as chief spokesperson for the Library at all levels and collaborates with other CSU library deans on system-wide initiatives. THE INSTITUTION HSU is a primarily residential campus located 280 miles north of San Francisco in the rural redwood coast region of California. HSU is the northernmost campus in the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system and serves 8,000 students. Excellence in undergraduate education is HSU’s foremost goal, and the campus community is committed to environmental responsibility and social justice. HSU’s hometown of Arcata is a vibrant and welcoming community filled with music, art and festivals.   THE LIBRARY ENVIRONMENT The HSU Library has a total annual budget of approximately $3.6 million, including $670,000 for information resources. The Library contains almost 560,000 monographs, provides access to more than 150 electronic full-text and citation databases and 99,000 electronic books, and is a selective United States federal depository for government documents. In addition to its main monographic and periodicals collections, the Library has significant holdings of compact discs, DVD’s, curriculum materials, children’s literature, maps, and photographs. Special Collections and Archives, with its Northwestern California regional focus, maintains significant collections and a strong digital presence with a strong track record of grant funding. The Library uses the ExLibris Voyager integrated library system and OCLC to support its core bibliographic mission. The Library personnel roster includes 24 library personnel, 8 library faculty and approximately 9 FTE of student assistants. SALARY AND BENEFITS   The Dean for the University Library is a full-time, twelve-month Administrator IV-Range A position.  Salary is based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.  This position is covered by the CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP).  Under this plan, the incumbent is subject to normal management reviews and serves at the pleasure of the University President.  This plan also provides an excellent benefits package.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An earned American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, from an accredited college or university required at the time of appointment.
