Smathers Libraries seeks a creative and service-oriented liaison librarian at the Health Science Center Library. The liaison librarian provides reference assistance and consultations, instruction, outreach, and collection management for assigned departments and programs in the Academic Health Center. This tenure track faculty position serves as a member of the Biomedical and Health Information Services team, and provides services in a variety of modes (in person, email, “house calls”.) The position is responsible for special projects as assigned, such as collection reviews, development of web-based resources, and service evaluation. The library encourages staff participation in reaching management decisions and, consequently, the liaison librarian will be asked to serve on various committees and teams. The liaison librarian performs scholarly research and provides service at the institutional and professional levels as related to assignment and in accordance with tenure and promotion criteria. The liaison librarian will pursue professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and professional service activities in order to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and promotion. RESPONSIBILITIES • Provides liaison librarian services to the students, staff and faculty of the College of Nursing. Liaison services include instruction, consultation, collection development, and other client-centered services as appropriate. • Provides instruction and develops resources for students’ and clinicians’ consumer health information needs. • In collaboration with Academic Health Center faculty/students and HSCL librarians, develops meaningful opportunities for providing information to health care consumers and patients. • Provides on-call, by appointment, and e-mail reference services to faculty, students and staff of the University of Florida Academic Health Center. • Participates in instruction programs using traditional classroom methods and modern educational technologies. • Participates actively in the development, selection and evaluation of web resources for subject guides and other client services. • Participates in collection management program. Selects and evaluates subject based materials related to liaison assignment and works with faculty in selecting materials to support their academic and research programs. • Participates in planning, policy formation and departmental decision making relating to health science services, collections and new technologies. • Actively serves on committees and in a team-based environment. • Performs scholarly research and provides service at the institutional and professional levels as related to assignment and in accordance with library faculty tenure and promotion criteria. QUALIFICATIONS Required: • Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school, or equivalent advanced degree in a life or health science field. • Strong commitment to client-focused service. • An interest in providing information services to, and collaborating with, clinicians and health science students, educators, and researchers in general, and specifically, those in the College of Nursing. • An interest in developing and providing information services to health care consumers and patients. • Ability to work effectively as part of a team within a culturally diverse community. • Ability to work effectively with all levels of library clients – faculty, researchers, clinicians, students (professional, graduate and undergraduate), and staff. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a rapidly changing environment. • Understanding of and enthusiasm for reference resources and services. • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services. • Interest in and ability to contribute to the profession via research, publication, presentation, and service. • Proficiency with technology. • Strong potential for meeting the requirements of tenure and promotion (outlined at http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/pers/cdh) Preferred: • Record of including individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, ethnicities, genders, and perspectives in research, teaching, service and other work. • Undergraduate or advanced degree in health or life science, or experience serving a similar client population. • Experience using health-related literature databases such as PubMed. • Experience with/demonstrated enthusiasm for working with the public. • Demonstrated ability in developing and delivering instruction. • Familiarity with web-based instructional tools. • Experience working in an academic health science library.
