The Eugene McDermott Library at the University of Texas at Dallas seeks an energetic, innovative, and service-oriented individual for the position of Interlibrary Loan Librarian. Under the supervision of the Head of Access and Delivery Services, the Interlibrary Loan Librarian will lead a team of one and a half support staff and oversee the library’s interlibrary loan and document delivery services. THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Texas at Dallas is a doctoral level, state supported component of The University of Texas System located in suburban Richardson. The University provides 134 degrees (49 bachelors, 56 masters, and 29 doctoral programs) and has an enrollment of over 19,000 students. Nationally recognized for its programs in management, audiology, engineering/computer science, and brain and behavioral sciences, the University also provides imaginative interdisciplinary programs in the humanities, policy studies, political science, economics, and geographical information sciences. THE LIBRARY: The Libraries of the University of Texas at Dallas have a collection of more than 2.5 million volumes, 63,000 electronic journals, 1,000,000 electronic books, 15,000 media items, and over 2,000,000 microform units. The libraries employ more than 80 people, including 23 professionals. In support of UT Dallas’s ascent to premier research university status, the Library is an active participant in the UT System Digital Library program, TexShare, and Amigos Library Services. In addition, the Eugene McDermott Library is a federal government documents depository. The Special Collections Department includes the History of Aviation Collection, the Wineburgh Philatelic Research Library, the Louise B. Belsterling Botanical Library, and the University Archives. RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains knowledge of the latest versions of interlibrary loan software and online tools including ILLiad, ILLiad Customization Manager, and OCLC WorldShare ILL, in addition to Alma, the Libraries’ current ILS. Supervises and trains support staff in performing borrowing and lending functions. Keeps appropriate records related to copyright and pays copyright fees as needed. Keeps complete and accurate statistical records. Establishes goals, objectives, and performance standards for the department, and monitors service quality to ensure users’ needs are met. Maintains knowledge of current resource sharing practices. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program is required. 1 year of academic library experience; working knowledge of an integrated library system; experience providing excellent customer service; demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; and commitment to the continuing development of personal knowledge and skills in the area of interlibrary loan. Preference is given to candidates with interlibrary loan experience. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive salary commensurate with education and experience for a 12-month administrative/professional appointment.
