Reference & Outreach Specialist The Folger Shakespeare Library, a premier research library located in Washington, DC, seeks a Reference & Outreach Specialist to join an institution dedicated to outreach, education, and research. In consultation with the Head of Reference, the Specialist provides reference services and support for onsite and remote researchers. The Specialist participates in Folger outreach to the general public and visiting scholars via social media, generates new outreach initiatives, and evaluates success of programs. The Specialist serves as a liaison to new users and visitors; provides orientation and instruction on Library procedures and resources; and provides tours, rare book presentations and instructional classes. In addition, the Specialist works closely with our scholar, undergraduate, and school programs on a variety of projects. This position requires an MLS, or equivalent experience, and a minimum of four years experience providing reference services in a university or independent research library, preferably in a special collections setting. Applicants must be conversant with standard office software applications, web editing, collaborative online editing, and screen-casting. Proficiency in MediaWiki (or similar platform), and social media, particularly with innovative delivery of reference support, is required. Also required is knowledge of principles, practices, and trends in outreach service coordination. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills including experience with providing individualized and small group training to a diverse audience. Reading knowledge of a European language such as Latin, French, German, or Italian is highly desirable.
