Title: Instructional Services Librarian The University Libraries at Virginia Tech seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative, and creative librarian to serve as an Instructional Services Librarian. This position will join the Research and Instructional Services department, whose goal is to strategically approach teaching and learning at University Libraries by providing a diverse portfolio of library instruction options for students and faculty at Virginia Tech. The Instructional Services Librarian offers a unique opportunity to participate in and to help determine the direction of a strong teaching and learning program that is part of an innovative library system undergoing exciting transformations. Position Summary: While the core duties of this position will revolve around designing and implementing various types of library instruction, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape parts of this position based on his or her interests and skills. In particular, the successful candidate will work with Research and Instructional Services leadership to identify and build partnerships with liaison departments that would be an appropriate match for the successful candidate’s background and interests. The Instructional Services Librarian will be responsible for: • Seeking opportunities to design, develop, and evaluate library instruction for foundational courses including both in-person and virtual instruction sessions • Contributing progressive, original approaches and ideas to discussions and implementations of teaching and learning at University Libraries • Working collaboratively with other Research and Instructional Services members to strategize teaching and learning at University Libraries • Cultivating partnerships with members of the Virginia Tech community by reaching out to and engaging with faculty, staff, and students in assigned departments • Providing customized consultations for faculty and students in the liaison department(s) identified at the time of hire • Assisting with the development, evaluation, maintenance, and promotion of collections for liaison department(s) identified at the time of hire • Participating in various continuing education and professional development opportunities in order to continually evolve his or her instructional and professional practice Required Qualifications: • MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program or equivalent • Broad knowledge and understanding of library instruction and principles relating information and other literacies • Understanding of current and emerging trends, concepts, and theories in library instruction and higher education • Strong interpersonal skills in outreach, relationship building, and collaboration Ability to work as part of a team in order to accomplish departmental and institutional goals in a fast-paced, energetic environment • Demonstrated learner-oriented approach to instruction and other library services • Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and learning Preferred Qualifications: • Experience or academic coursework related to instructional design, instructional technologies, educational technologies, or the equivalent • Experience or academic coursework related to assessment of instructional initiatives • Experience with the application of pedagogical practices related to undergraduate and graduate students • Experience delivering instruction and outreach to campus communities • Evidence of successful project management skills Salary: $46.000-$50,000 (Commensurate with credentials and experience) Rank: A/P faculty with Lecture rank Benefits: University benefit information can be located at http://www.hr.vt.edu/benefits/index.html HOW TO APPLY: Applications must be submitted online at http://www.hr.vt.edu/employment.
