The University of Chicago Library invites applications for the position of Institutional Repository Manager. The Institutional Repository Manager provides strategic leadership and direction for the development of the University of Chicago’s Institutional Repository and associated services. The IR Manager works with stakeholders to identify use cases and define requirements for the IR, and manages the development of new functionalities and services that meet their needs. The IR Manager provides an outreach and advocacy role by raising awareness of IR services across campus, creating opportunities for collaboration, and developing training programs. The University of Chicago Institutional Repository is a collaboration among the Library, the Research Computing Center, and the University’s IT Services Division, and is envisioned as a cross-divisional set of flexible, coordinated services and infrastructure. It will preserve and share the intellectual assets of the University of Chicago by supporting researchers, instructors, and administrative staff with a professionally-managed digital environment in which to curate, preserve, and disseminate their materials including research data, teaching resources, and administrative records. The IR Manager will play a key role in realizing this vision, including setting and implementing both short and long-term goals for the development of the IR. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Digital Services, the IR Manager will work closely with the Director of the Library’s Digital Library Development Center, and staff from IT Services and the Research Computing Center to develop an Institutional Repository that serves the University’s mission. Responsibilities • Work with Library divisions and campus IT Services and the Research Computer Center to plan, implement, and evaluate sustainable IR technologies, services, and policies that support data management, long-term archiving, and appropriate sharing of research, teaching, and administrative materials • Research, recommend, and test new technology • Participate in local, regional, national, and international discussions and initiatives regarding standards, best practices, cooperative data curation, and data life cycle management activities and services. • Advise and train faculty, graduate and post-doctoral students, and administrators in writing data management plans in collaboration with RCC and IT Services • Work with faculty, graduate students, academic and administrative units, and research centers to enable them to better manage, describe, archive, preserve, and make available their data. • Conduct user needs analysis, product evaluation, selection, customization, testing, implementation and support Required Qualifications: • A graduate library degree from an accredited library school and a commitment to ongoing professional development. • Demonstrated record of innovation and success in providing IR services aligned with campus goals, with extensive knowledge of the activities, processes, resources, and technologies involved in IR management and leadership. • Experience working with digital repository systems housing a variety of data types and knowledge of issues and trends in scholarly communication, intellectual property, and data management • Demonstrated knowledge of issues and technical challenges related to the management, curation, and archiving of digital data. • Demonstrated record of success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, and other internal and external partners. • Proven ability in and desire for doing outreach and training across campus. • Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate, and implement effective programs, projects, and services • Demonstrated knowledge of metadata concepts and standards, including descriptive metadata, technical metadata and preservation metadata. • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to produce public-facing materials such as documentation, service pages, presentations, etc. • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a changing environment SALARY AND BENEFITS: Appointment salary based on qualifications and experience.
