The Associate Director is a senior level management position in the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) Library.  This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the WHSC Library, including supervision of the Information Desk Coordinator, and overseeing reference and instructional services provided by Librarians and Informationists. Working with the Director, the Associate Director will assist to establish strategic goals and objectives, determine enterprise wide activities and collaborations, and prepare administrative reports.  The Associate Director interprets library policies (may create policies), and participates in budget decisions.  Primary responsibilities include (but are not confined to) the following:


·         Works closely with the WHSC Library Director and other library staff in areas of assigned responsibilities and participates in library-wide and university-wide initiatives, as appropriate.

·         Serves as the lead for Informationist and Librarian services with programmatic responsibility for functional areas and direct and indirect supervision of individuals with librarian classification.  (8 FTE librarians)

·         Works with direct reports to coordinate recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff. In addition, will foster a positive and proactive environment in which individuals will have opportunities to develop a broad knowledge of library operations and services as well as specialized skills.  Works with LITS HR staff to develop specific training for staff based on need and participates in succession planning and management initiatives as appropriate.
