Position description

Reporting to the head of the Engineering & Computer Science Library (ECSL), the incumbent will work proactively and collaboratively to provide reference service, in-depth research assistance, faculty liaison and information literacy including one-on-one instruction and group/classroom instruction and the ECSL’s Personal Librarian project. The incumbent will create or oversee creation of eLearning materials for reference and instruction and will oversee reference services at ECSL. The incumbent may also have responsibility for duties relating to the provision of services such as interlibrary loan services, circulation and collection maintenance. Responsibilities will include some staff supervision and training.

Required Qualifications of the Successful Candidate:

  • Must be a graduate of an ALA accredited library school with an MLIS/MISt degree or acceptable equivalent.
  • Experience providing reference service and instruction in an academic library.
  • Excellent skills in oral & written English, research, interpersonal relations, presentation skills, ability to work in a fast paced team and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong service orientation, ability to manage a diverse workload, initiative, flexibility, attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Knowledge and experience with science and engineering databases and resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate degree or related work experience in science or engineering preferred.
  • Some experience supervising GSLAs and/or library associates.
  • Some familiarity with video capture or other eLearning applications preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and librarians.
  • Understanding of issues and challenges in eLearning highly desirable.

Salary and Terms of Appointment:

Librarian I - $58,100 (Minimum annual salary for full-time Librarian I)

This is a permanent status stream position.
