Public Services Librarian – (Librarian II or III)

Position description
Under the general supervision of the Director – Business Information Centre (BIC), the Public Services Librarian will provide reference and other information services to faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent will also provide day-to-day supervision and coordination of the daily operations of the public service area including supervising student assistants and reference staff. Other responsibilities include preparing and conducting teaching and orientation sessions on the University’s and the BIC’s electronic databases and collections for MBA, Executive program, and Commerce students. Development and support of information literacy into the curriculum of both the graduate and undergraduate programs of the business school. Maintenance of the BIC’s electronic products and catalogue is also required in this position. Provision of indepth research support to faculty and students. Committee work within the U of T Library system and knowledge of collection development practices are also required.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
• An ALA accredited library school with a Master of Library Science/Master of Information Studiesdegree or an equivalent
• One year’s experience working in an academic library
• A strong customer service ethic
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• An interest and understanding of information literacy and the ability to teach effectively
• Demonstrated knowledge of web-based and other online systems, and resources, in finance,business, management, and other discipline-specific resources
• Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to work independently in a team environment while providing service to faculty, staff, and students of the Rotman School of Management, as well as those of the University as a whole.Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate will preferably have:
• A minimum of two to four year’s experience working in an academic library
• Interest in emerging technologies and their application in an academic setting to develop innovative
services that will best serve the Rotman community
• Experience working in a public service capacity
• Supervisory experience in an academic setting
Salary and Terms of Appointment:
Salary and appointment level are based upon experience and qualifications. It is anticipated that this position
will be filled at the Librarian II or III level, subject to review and experience.
Librarian II - $60,700 (Minimum annual salary for full-time Librarian II)
Librarian III - $78,500 (Minimum annual salary for full-time Librarian III)
This is a permanent status stream position.
