Book and Serials Holdings Manager
Full-Time, Administrative Professional, Regular Position

POSITION:
This position, which reports to the RapidILL Coordinator of Customer and Technical Support, is responsible for managing the configuration and loading of book and journal holdings into the RapidILL database and working with participating libraries to make sure that holdings are loaded accurately. The individual in this position will analyze and present system averages, bench marks, and standards to Rapid member libraries and consortia; represent RapidILL when integrating protocol interoperability with library systems such as Alma and Innovative Interfaces, and interlibrary loan management software companies including Relais and Atlas Systems; and evaluate the interoperability of RapidILL's APIs. The successful candidate will also serve as a member of the RapidILL team, including representing RapidILL at national and international conferences and consortium meetings. 

RapidILL, which was developed by the CSU Libraries' Interlibrary Loan staff, provides a centralized interface for worldwide resource sharing (interlibrary loan). RapidILL serves approximately 250 libraries in the U.S., Canada, Asia, and Australia. More than one million resource sharing transactions pass through the system each year. RapidILL provides custom workflow solutions and utilizes data extracts to reduce resource sharing costs, minimize library staff time, and enable fast turnaround time for interlibrary loan requests. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Manage RapidILL's journal and book holdings database, which is comprised of the journal and book holdings of approximately 250 large academic libraries. Oversee comprehensive audits of related hardware and software.
* Provide network administration related to holdings data structure and hardware.
* Develop scripts for managing data entry in the holdings framework, which accounts for variations in data type and formatting used by individual libraries.
* Monitor and analyze automated holdings processes to identify issues, potential problems, or areas of inefficiency. Due to the fluid nature of library holdings,  automated processes may need to be adjusted to account for changes in format, file type and structure, and data volume. Assess and modify parameters that govern data input exclusions or translations.
* Create and manage system documentation, including top-level instructions and processes, for RapidILL staff, and create user documentation for member libraries that outlines processes and workflow for  providing holdings data to RapidILL.
* Collaborate with customers on extracting holdings data, conduct troubleshooting of holdings databases, and serve as an expert on the data structure and vocabulary used by various libraries for their holdings. Requires custom processes to facilitate data ingestion, since client libraries use different data systems.  Reinterprets holdings data and returns it to the client in a useable format. 
* Design and manage RapidILL's ticketing system, including analyzing data to identify areas for further software development and upgrades. Utilize automated response options to provide excellent customer service and minimize staff involvement with routine questions.
* Cross train on duties performed by other professionals on the RapidILL team.
* Participate in daily operations of RapidILL and serve as a member of the RapidILL Team during weekly meetings.
* Develop and maintain knowledge of RapidILL programming and systems.
* Maintain RapidILL's effectiveness and efficiency by designing, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
* Minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science or computer information systems and at least 2 years' experience in the application and support of computer technology, or a bachelor's degree and at least five years' experience in application and support of computer technology.
* Knowledge of interlibrary loan services to academic and research libraries
* Knowledge of interlibrary loan procedures and processes
* Ability to fill a problem-solving role with customers and consortia
* Ability to travel up to 15-20 days per year
* Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
* Excellent written communication skills
* Excellent organizational skills
* Ability to learn new technology skills

Preferred:
* Scripting experience
* Knowledge of interlibrary loan software, such as ILLiad, Relais, or Clio.
* SQL database management
* Working knowledge of list functions in an academic library's Integrated Library System (ILS)
* Knowledge of MARC information tags
* Graduate degree in information and/or library science

RANK AND SALARY: Administrative professional position. Insurance benefits are available for appointments of half-time or greater, and faculty and administrative professionals may select from several options for medical, dental, life, and personal disability insurance, as well as retirement plans. Full-time faculty and administrative professionals earn 24 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave annually. Optional deferred compensation. Salary $43,000-$50,000.
