CARL is a membership organization comprising Canada’s twenty-nine largest university libraries and two federal government institutions. Enhancing research and higher education is at the heart of its mission. CARL promotes effective and sustainable scholarly communication, and public policy that enables broad access to scholarly information.
The CARL Executive Director plays a leadership role in support of members’ interests in the national and international information policy arena, and is responsible for developing, facilitating and implementing CARL policies and initiatives that promote the mission and strategic directions of the Association. The successful candidate will have outstanding communication skills – preferably in both official languages – and significant management experience in a university library, relevant association and/or research environment. An MLS or equivalent postgraduate degree is strongly preferred.
The Executive Director supervises an office staff based in Ottawa and is accountable for the efficient and effective business operations of the Association. Compensation depends on qualifications and years of experience and is competitive with administrative status at a large, research-based university library in the Ottawa area.
CARL seeks to fill this position on a permanent basis but will consider long term secondment from a suitable institution.
