The library system currently consists of the University Librarian, eleven professional librarians, one other professional, 27 support staff and 4 casual staff. Collections include approximately 600,000 print volumes, access to more than 4,000 online journals and over 120,000 e-books, as well as special collections such as the Archives and the Regional Collection. The Library has used the Voyager integrated library system (ILS) from Ex Libris since 2001 and uses additional Ex Libris products such as SFX.
The library system includes a main Library (Chancellor Paterson Library) and three additional locations - the Education Library in Thunder Bay and two smaller but growing libraries in Orillia. The main library has completed a renovation of the main floor to accommodate a Learning Commons area, which includes an integrated IT/research help desk. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the University Librarian provides visionary leadership in all areas of the Library’s operations and development. She or he is responsible for the overall administration and policy co-ordination of the Library, and participates in the governance of the University. The successful candidate will hold a graduate degree in Library and Information Studies, and have a track record of successful administrative experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility. She or he will have strong leadership and management abilities, a comprehensive understanding of the contemporary issues and challenges affecting academic libraries, and the collaborative and communications skills required to develop strong internal and external relationships and partnerships.
