The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a creative, collaborative, and service-oriented individual to join the Research and Instructional Services Department as the Subject Librarian for designated departments in the Social Sciences. The Social Sciences Librarian will possess experience in the teaching and use of resources in the social sciences, will be well versed in the use of new and emerging technologies for outreach, will understand and practice liaison librarian techniques and will have sufficient technical expertise to provide support for the discovery and use of datasets.  Reporting to the Head of the Humanities and Social Sciences Section of Research and Instructional Services, the successful candidate will join an energetic and service-oriented department that supports teaching and research in the humanities and social sciences.  The department is actively engaged in collaboration with the Research Hub, a new, major library initiative that brings together partners, technology, expertise and resources that scholars need to support new endeavors in today’s research environment.

 

The Social Sciences Librarian will serve as the liaison to designated social sciences departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and will provide research consultations to faculty, staff, students, and community members. The librarian will build strong partnerships and deepen engagement with the faculty, will assist and consult with faculty and students in developing research capabilities (e.g., data and appropriate software and tools), and will provide support for course development. The librarian in this position will work closely with faculty, students and other scholars to provide proactive research support and innovative instruction; participate in general and specialized reference services; and create shared practices that connect the Libraries’ learning environment and research knowledge with constituent needs.
