Georgetown University seeks a strategic, dynamic leader to join its senior management team as the Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Resources. Located at the heart of the campus, the Georgetown University Library welcomes one million visitors annually. Over one hundred librarians and staff provide innovative services and sustain collections of over 3.5 million volumes, which are available to the University’s 15,000 faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. A member of the Association of Research Libraries and the Washington Research Libraries Consortium, Georgetown University Library embodies the University’s mission as a “student-centered research university.”

The Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Resources provides leadership and direction for the division that includes the departments of Collections, Research, and Instruction; Copyright and Scholarly Communications; the Special Collections Research Center; the Blommer Science Library; and the Woodstock Theological Library.

Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian and as a member of the Library’s Executive Committee and Leadership Council, the Associate University Librarian shares in the responsibilities for decision-making, resource management, strategic direction and development of policies for the library operations and services within a collaborative, team-oriented environment. As indicated, s/he represents the University Librarian and the Library within the University and in local, regional, and national associations and consortia.

Requirements include:

Masters  of Library Science or MIS and second subject Master’s degree required.  Doctorate preferred.

Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible administrative experience in providing services related to research, teaching and learning and scholarly communication. Successful record of management and administration of a large staff, along with the ability to articulate vision, set direction, and accomplish initiatives in rapidly changing environments. Established expertise in managing library materials budgets and developing scholarly, special, and circulating collections.

Demonstrated deep knowledge of trends and issues affecting academic research libraries, along with understanding of and enthusiasm for the role of the library in the research, teaching, and learning mission of the university. Evidence of leadership and active involvement in the library profession. Proven commitment to scholarship is critical to interact intellectually with members of a University community renowned for its excellence.

The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and excellence in oral and written communications, as well as the ability to interact collegially and effectively with all constituencies, from faculty, staff, and students to alumni, donors and members of the wider community.
