BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Library Services, this Information Specialist position provides support for the research needs of the Universities diverse faculty and staff.  This position also oversees and coordinates the document delivery services and is responsible for implementing policies and maintaining systems to provide an efficient document delivery service. The Information Specialist promotes the Library as the intellectual center of the campus community and develops events to advertise library’s new initiatives. The position also serves as the Library’s primary resource on copyright compliance, fair use, and other copyright issues that pertain to library collections and services.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
•Serves as the library liaison to the CLU community in marketing the library’s new initiatives, services and resources related to scholarly communication and document delivery. E
•Develops policies and implements best practices in topics related to scholarly communication including research, copyright, the public domain, open access and user privacy. Provides assistance to faculty and the library staff on trends and issues relevant to the dynamic scholarly publishing landscape, author rights and open access publishing. E
•Serves as the Library’s primary resource on copyright compliance, fair use, and other copyright issues that pertain to library collections and services; provides tools and educational opportunities to promote knowledge and awareness of copyright requirements; utilizes Copyright Clearance Center and SIPX services. E
•Collaborates with the University’s Office of Sponsored Research and Projects, and the Festival of Scholars to provide support for the student’s research needs; plans and coordinates the library staff efforts in this area. E
•Oversees and coordinates all aspects of the document delivery/interlibrary loan services and maintains the OCLC WorldShare ILL system. E
•Monitors and coordinates the work of the student assistants in the document delivery team. E
•Contributes to the development of the University's information resources by acting as a liaison with respective departments; evaluates the collection with respect to the curriculum, and makes decisions for purchase or provision of access in assigned subject areas. E
•Provides information literacy instruction, quick reference, bibliographical guidance and response to complex research problems in designated subject areas. Writes and maintains Internet subject resource guides in support of the curriculum in selected disciplines. E
•Assists with institutional repository of scholarly and creative works, digitization projects and digital preservation initiatives. E
•Manages the Pearson Library's web presence including website and social media accounts; maintains and updates the library webpages on a regular basis. E
•Assists with planning and implementing digitization projects and digital preservation programs. E
•Assists with institutional repository of scholarly and creative works and publications by members of the California Lutheran University.  E
•Maintains and reports usage statistics to track borrowed and loaned items; tracks, maintains and reports quarterly items loaned to California Public Libraries for reimbursement credit by the California State Library. E
•Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates student assistants. E
•Collaborates with Collection Development and Acquisition services. E
•Other related duties and assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: A Master’s degree in Library Science or related field and two years of experience in an academic library or research institute or a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science and four years of experience in an academic library or research institute.
